New Summer Retreat
for Shanghai Expats
If you want to spend a relaxed weekend this summer,
a Yellow
Mountain trekking is strongly suggested
and I’m sure you will have had a worthwhile trip.
Day 1. You can fly here or take
a night train one day earlier and stay overnight
in the best hotel on the top, 1700 meters above
sea level, a really cool world.
Day 2. Watch the sunrise in front
of your hotel and have a trekking tour afterwards
all over the mountain. Get down in the afternoon
and stay by the lake side in a Ming
household.
Day 3. Have a boating tour on
the lake and enjoy the splendid landscape of the
surroundings. Then you can either go fishing,
or fruit picking on the lake side, such as tangerines,
chestnuts, persimmons, or peaches and apricots
if your tour is arranged in next May or June.
The kitchen is ready for your fishing trophies
and you can enjoy a typical local flavor at noon
and then check out for some nearby Ming villages,
which are also well-known hot tourist attractions,
such as Chengkan,
Tangmo
and old town of Shexian.
Late in the afternoon you can have a stroll on
the early market street in the downtown and you
can try the signature dishes at the local best
restaurant. Then go to the airport and take the
night flight back to Shanghai.
This trip is short but programs are colorful,
a tough trekking of a well-known mountain in China,
a quiet lake sightseeing and some glimpse of local
culture and history, which are tightly compacted
within three days.
Seeing is believing. Come over and you will find
a new frontier worthy to recommend to your close
friends.
De
Mao Tang, which means Prosperous Virtue
Household in English, is a complex of ancient
houses located in the green hills by the lake.
It is really an ideal retreat from Shanghai’s
bustling and hustling life for you to have a relaxed
and quiet weekend. All the buildings have traditional
outlooks of Ming style, but modern accommodations
inside. The rate might be a little bit higher
for common people but quite reasonable for high-end
consumers. After the mountain trekking the day
before, you can go boating on the mirror-like
lake and enjoy the fresh cool air from the surrounding
green hills. At dusk you can have a stroll on
the well-paved paths around your Ming-styled accommodations
and get a bird-view of the whole lake. Though,
very traditional outside, the dwelling is quite
modern inside, with brand-new living facilities
for your room and toilet.
